Terms and Conditions

All bulls are sold on a first come - first serve basis. Terms of sale are cash. Bulls are to be paid in full before transfer at the time of delivery. A down payment of 20% will be required to reserve a bull for later delivery. A three year lease option is available to qualified producers.

Fertility

All bulls are guaranteed to be breeders and will be fertility tested prior to delivery, unless other arrangements are made. All claims for adjustment refund must be made in writing within six months of the sale date. In the event a bull is claimed to be a non-breeder, the purchaser may return the animal to the ranch of the seller if in good condition and complying with the health requirements of the state of Montana. MCR will be entitled to six months trial following the return of the animal in which to prove that the bull is a breeder. If at the end of the six months MCR is unable to prove the given bull is a breeder, MCR shall be obligated to replace the animal with another of equal value or to refund the purchase price. The return of the full purchase price shall in any case be deemed full satisfaction and settlement. If MCR proves the animal to be a breeder, it shall be the obligation of the purchaser to take delivery of the animal at the purchaser's expense.

Interest Retained

Meyer Company Ranch retains a one-third semen interest on all bulls sold. All bulls unless otherwise noted in the catalog are sold as two-thirds semen interest, full possession and full salvage value. On selected bulls we are offering for sale and/or retaining a one-third interest. This interest gives the owner the full right to sell and market semen and certificates.

Sight Unseen Purchase

Any bull sold sight unseen is guaranteed until the buyer has inspected and accepted the bull at the time of delivery. This group of bulls were calved out in late May-June 2000 and have never been offered previously for sale or lease. All bull are designated as being virgin bulls unless otherwise noted.

Performance Data

Each bull's individual performance record is listed. The Red Angus Association of America calculates all performance records. The performance data starts with the Actual Birth Weight of the bull followed by: Adjusted Weaning Weight and Weaning Ratio (weaning weight are adjusted to 205 days of age and the age of the dam, a ratio equal to 100 is average for that group), Adjusted Yearling Weight and Yearling Ratio (yearling weights are adjusted to 365 days of age), ADG is the average daily gain of the bull from weaning until yearling, ADG is not adjusted, SC is the yearling scrotal circumference, Pelvic is the actual pelvic area of the bull measured at yearling, and finally Frame scores are given. Ratios are measures of individual performance and are calculated on a within-herd basis. They contain no pedigree or progeny information and are really only appropriate for comparing animals within the same herd or contemporary group.

EPD's

EPD's are Expected Progeny Differences calculated by Colorado State University for the Red Angus Association. EPD's are the best selection tool available to compare bulls across herds. An EPD is a prediction of the difference between the average performance of future progeny of an individual and the performance of a theoretical reference animal, an animal with an EPD of zero. EPD's for yearling virgin bulls are calculated entirely on pedigree and individual performance. EPD's for bulls with progeny will be based almost totally on progeny information. The EPD's for each bull can be found across the bottom of the description. Remember, EPD's are relative and not absolute values, they are designed to compare animals, nothing more.

  • Birth EPD: used to predict the differences in birth weights between calves from different bulls. Lower birth weights are predicted by lower birth EPD's, resulting in less calving difficulty.
  • Wean EPD: is an indication of growth to weaning. A higher weaning EPD predicts higher growth.
  • Year EPD: is a measure of growth from birth to a year of age. Again, higher EPD's predicts more growth.
  • Milk EPD: used to predict the milking ability of daughters of a bull. Higher Milk EPD's predict more milk.
  • Total Maternal EPD: is a measure of both growth and milking ability and is an indication of the size of calf a bull's daughter will wean. Total Maternal is one-half the weaning EPD plus the Milk EPD.
  • Stayability EPD: used to predict how long daughters of a bull will stay in the herd.

Pedigree

The pedigree is printed for the parents and grandparents, extended pedigrees are available.

Bull Lease

Meyer Company Ranch offers a three-year lease contract. With this option a producer will acquire and maintain possession of a bull or bulls of choice during the full 3 years. The reasoning is due to reproductive disease control. At the end of the contract the producer can choose to extend their lease or return the bull. MCR maintains ownership throughout the lease contract. Leaser can option to purchase the bulls anytime during lease. Lease payments are based on pounds of steer calf at your local market or cattle fax prices when calves are sold or when payment is due. For example, a bull is leased at 800 pounds and the local market price for steers is $.90, the calculation is 800# x .90 = $720. For that individual bull, $720 would be the lease price for that year and would be due on the payment date. Payment date each year is December 15th unless otherwise agreed upon. MCR feels that by offering a lease program we can share some of the risk with the producer.
